INTRODUCTION:
Negative skin friction now a well-known and established concept in soil mechanics, about which no news can be reported. The “new” geotechnical standards do not give rise to shocking changes. This contribution, therefore, has nothing new to offer for the soil mechanical consultants present here. Yet there is sufficient reason to raise this topic again on this day and for this company. In daily practice, it appears that there is a need for more information on the subject of cone penetration testing and negative skin friction. It is not without reason that the title of this presentation is negative skin friction and soil testing. After all, the basis for determining this type of friction is soil testing and nowadays cone penetration testing in particular.
