Reuse of Foundations Conference
Save the Date & Call for papers
In March of 2023 there will be a 3-day event on the Reuse of Foundations in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In this city the use of foundation piles is nothing new and given the age of many structures the issue the foundation reuse is recurring topic time and time again. This can be because the loads have increased since the structure was first designed, as is the case with the bridges in Amsterdam, or because a new building is constructed to replace a structure that no longer meets the current requirements. But whatever the reason, the question what to do with the existing foundation has to be addressed.
During the first two days of this event there will be four sessions with lectern presentations, focusing on basic issues when it comes to foundation reuse:
- • Session 1: The decision-making process regarding foundation reuse
• Session 2: The inspection and testing of existing foundations to assess their suitability for reuse
• Session 3: The design process when foundations are reused
• Session 4: The construction phase when foundations are reused
A keynote lecture by an invited speaker will open each session, after which 25-minute presentations will be scheduled. The session will then close with a moderated panel discussion, where the speakers and the attendees can have an open exchange of ideas on the session topic.
On the third day of the event there will be a site visit of two or more job sites in or near Amsterdam, where foundations are reused to provide the attendees with practical examples of this approach.
Call for Abstracts / Papers
Abstracts (300 words or less) are requested from individuals interested to present at this event and should be submitted at abstracts@foundationreuse.com. In case the abstract is for a particular case study there is no requirement for a paper, but for all other abstracts a paper will be required once the abstract has been accepted preliminarily. The submission should clearly state for which session the abstract is submitted and in case of a case study, whether a paper will be prepared. All papers submitted will be subject to a peer review before a final decision is made whether the author(s) will be asked to present at the event.
